When God Says “Wait”

Trusting God’s Timing Even When You Don’t Understand It

By Sade Obisesan

Introduction

Waiting is one of the hardest lessons in the Christian life. We pray, believe, and hope for answers, yet sometimes God responds with a simple word: “Wait.”

Whether you’re waiting for a new opportunity, healing, restoration, direction, or a long-awaited breakthrough, remember this truth: God’s delays are never His denials. While you are waiting, He is working behind the scenes for your good.

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” – Psalm 27:14 (NIV)

  1. Waiting is Part of God’s Plan: God’s timing is always perfect. What feels like a delay to us is often God’s way or preparing us for something greater. Many of the people we admire in the Bible experienced seasons of waiting. Abraham waited for the promised son. Joseph waited before becoming a ruler. David waited before becoming king. Their waiting was not wasted – it prepared them for God’s purpose. “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

2. God is Preparing You While You Wait

Sometimes God is more interested in preparing you than changing your situation. Waiting develops patience, strengthens faith, and teaches us to trust God completely. During these seasons, He shapes our characters and draws us closer to Him. Instead of asking, “Why am I waiting?” ask, “Lord, what are You teaching me while I wait?”

“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” – James 1:4

3. Don’t Stop Worshipping While You Wait

Waiting should never stop your worship. Praise reminds us that God is faithful even before we see the answer. Worship shifts our focus from our problems to God’s promises. When Paul and Silas worshipped in prison, God opened the doors at the appointed time. Your praise today may prepare the way for tomorrow’s breakthrough.

“Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” – Isaiah 40:31

4. Trust That God Knows What’s Best

God sees what we cannot see. He knows every detail of our future and understands the perfect time to answer every prayer. If the answer hasn’t come yet, trust that God’s timing is better than your own. He never arrives late.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Final Thoughts

If you are in a season of waiting today, don’t lose hope.

God has not forgotten you. He hears every prayer, sees every tear, and knows every desire of your heart.

Continue praying

Continue serving

Continue worshipping

Continue believing.

Your waiting season is not the end of your story – it is preparation for the testimony God is writing.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to trust Your timing when I cannot see the way ahead. Give me peace while I wait, strength to remain faithful, and confidence that You are working all things for my good. Teach me to worship You in every season and to rest in Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
